Baptism Hole Group Camp is located in Pine Log State Forest, Florida's first state forest established in 1936. This primitive group camping area sits along Pine Log Creek in Washington County, approximately 14 miles north of Panama City Beach. The campground offers a true wilderness experience without modern amenities like water, electric hookups, or restroom facilities. Pine Log State Forest encompasses approximately 7,000 acres of diverse natural communities including sand hills, flatwoods, cypress ponds, and titi swamps. The forest is home to a variety of indigenous animal and plant species, making it an excellent destination for wildlife viewing, birding, and photography. The area is part of both the Florida Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail systems. The group camp accommodates up to 20 people and features basic amenities including a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Recreational activities include fishing in Pine Log Creek, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the forest's extensive trail system. The forest offers designated trails for hiking only, hiking and biking, and horseback riding, providing diverse options for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a primitive camping experience in the Florida Panhandle.
Directions
From I-10 take Exit 112 for FL-79 S toward Panama City Beach. Head south on FL-79 for 29.8 miles. Turn right onto Environmental Road and proceed for 0.4 miles. Turn left onto Longleaf Road and proceed to kiosk. Head back east on Environmental Road toward FL-79. Entrance to Baptism Hole Group Camp is on the east side of FL-79 directly across from Environmental Road.
