About
Pine Ridge Campground at Falling Waters State Park sits at 324 feet above sea level, the highest elevation campground in Florida. The 24 campsites are nestled among longleaf pines and dogwoods, each equipped with water, 20/30/50 amp electric service, a picnic table, and a burn ring for evening campfires. A full-facility bathhouse with hot-water showers serves campers, along with a dump station for RVs. The park's centerpiece is Florida's highest waterfall, where a small stream drops 73 feet into Falling Waters Sink, a 100-foot-deep cylindrical pit. The water's final destination remains unknown. Visitors can explore three short nature trails totaling about one mile that wind through North Florida's gently sloping but hilly terrain, past 100-foot-deep sinkholes covered in ferns. The park's two-acre freshwater lake offers swimming at a white sand beach, and fishing for bass with a valid license. Historical remnants include Florida's first oil well and an 1860s grist mill, with archaeological evidence of habitation dating back over 5,000 years. Birders can spot over 100 species year-round, and park rangers host interpretive programs at the amphitheater. The park is located just south of I-10, providing a convenient, serene stopover. A primitive group camp near Turtle Lake accommodates up to 60 people with a campfire circle and nearby restroom facilities.
