About
Pine Island Group Area is located along the Bighorn Scenic Byway near Burgess Junction in the Bighorn National Forest at 8,400 feet elevation. The campground sits on the banks of the South Fork Tongue River, surrounded by lodgepole pine forest with Englemann spruce and Douglas fir. The single group site accommodates up to 150 people and is suitable for both overnight camping and day-use picnicking. The site features a three-sided picnic shelter equipped with 30-amp electric plugs (electricity available only inside the shelter). Amenities include picnic and serving tables, a campfire circle and grill, vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, and trash collection. RVs must be parked in the designated parking lot. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov. The surrounding area offers diverse recreation opportunities including off-road vehicle trails, scenic jeep roads, hiking trails that access the Cloud Peak Wilderness, and fishing. Nearby Sibley Lake is open to non-motorized watercraft and features an accessible fishing dock. The Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark is approximately 27 miles away. The campground is managed by Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds.
