About
North Tongue Campground is situated on the banks of the North Fork Tongue River and Big Willow Creek at 8,400 feet elevation in the Bighorn Mountains. Located just north of Burgess Junction where U.S. Highway 14 and 14A meet, this campground provides an excellent base for anglers targeting rainbow, brown, and brook trout in the river and nearby Sibley Lake. The surrounding lodgepole pine forest is punctuated by Engelmann spruce and Douglas fir, creating excellent wildlife habitat beneath granite peaks that rise over 13,000 feet. The campground offers convenient access to diverse recreational opportunities including OHV trails, scenic jeep roads, and numerous hiking trails ranging from easy loop trails to challenging wilderness treks accessing the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Sibley Lake, a short distance away, features an accessible fishing dock and is limited to non-motorized watercraft. Shell Falls Visitor Center and the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark are within 25 miles, offering interpretive trails and cultural sites. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground provides vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, and trash collection. Sites accommodate up to 8 people and two vehicles, with a 14-day stay limit. The campground is managed by Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds and operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather dependent.
