About
Ranger Creek Recreation Area is located just off the Bighorn Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14) in the Bighorn Mountains of northern Wyoming. At 7,500 feet elevation, the campground sits on the banks of Ranger Creek amid a forest of pine and aspen trees, with craggy granite peaks rising over 13,000 feet in the surrounding wilderness. The facility is designed primarily for group camping, featuring one large group site that can accommodate up to 150 people for overnight camping or day-use picnicking. A covered shelter with picnic and serving tables, a campfire ring, and grill are provided at the group site. Eleven individual campsites are also available for smaller parties. Accessible vault toilets, drinking water from faucets, and trash collection are provided during the operating season. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. The Adelaide Trail provides access to Shell Creek for hiking and horseback riding. Scenic off-road driving routes include Battle Creek Road to Medicine Lodge Lake and Ranger Creek Road to Shell Reservoir. Shell Falls Interpretive Site is approximately 8 miles west, and the Burgess Junction Visitor Center is 20 miles north.
