About

Owen Creek Campground sits at 8,400 feet elevation along the Bighorn Scenic Byway near Burgess Junction in Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest. The campground's eight standard sites are nestled among pine and aspen trees on the banks of Owen Creek, where the Bighorn Mountains' granite peaks rise over 13,000 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill, and the campground provides vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, and trash collection. The surrounding area offers diverse recreation including OHV trails, scenic jeep roads, hiking routes accessing the Cloud Peak Wilderness, and fishing opportunities. Sibley Lake, nearby, is open to non-motorized watercraft and features an accessible fishing dock where anglers pursue rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Shell Falls Visitor Center lies about 22 miles southwest, offering interpretive trails and educational displays. The Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite near Shell preserves 167-million-year-old tracks from the Middle Jurassic Period. Nearby lodges provide guided horseback riding, fishing adventures, dining, showers, and general stores.
