Pilot Mountain State Park's family campground sits on the lower slopes of the distinctive 2,241-foot Pilot Mountain, which has served as a navigational landmark for centuries. The 42-site drive-to campground features non-electric back-in sites scattered among the trees, accommodating trailers up to 38 feet. Each site includes a tent pad, picnic table, and fire pit/grill. Two bathhouses with hot showers and drinking water spigots are conveniently located throughout the campground. In addition to the family campground, the park offers two primitive canoe-in campsites located on the south side of the Yadkin River, 20 driving miles from the main mountain section. These sites are accessible by a 0.75-mile canoe trip or 0.5-mile hike and operate on a pack-in, pack-out basis. The park features an extensive trail network, rock climbing on steep cliffs, and spectacular views of the piedmont, Sauratown Mountains, and Blue Ridge Mountains from the summit area.

Directions

Take Pilot Mountain State Park exit 27 off US 52 and follow the brown signs. At the traffic circle take the first exit to stay on Pilot Knob Park Road. In 0.3 miles turn right onto Family Campground Lane.
