Hanging Rock State Park campground is situated in the scenic piedmont region of North Carolina, 30 miles north of Winston-Salem in Stokes County. Originally developed as a Civilian Conservation Corps project, the park has evolved into a comprehensive outdoor recreation destination. The campground features 73 non-electric campsites divided between upper and lower loops, accommodating tents and trailers with varying driveway lengths from 25 to 60 feet. The park is known for its extensive trail system with over 20 miles of hiking paths that lead visitors to spectacular waterfalls and dramatic rock outcrops offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and piedmont. Additional recreation includes mountain bike trails, horse trails, and year-round fishing opportunities on both the park lake and Dan River. During warmer months, the park lake provides swimming and seasonal canoe rentals. The Dan River access point allows for boating and tubing activities. Nearby attractions include Old Salem, Pilot Mountain State Park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, all within an hour's drive. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, warm showers, comfort stations, and nearby water spigots. Family cabins, primitive group camping, and picnic shelters are also available for reservation through the North Carolina State Parks system.
