About

Hanging Rock State Park campground sits within the rugged Sauratown Mountains of Stokes County, offering 73 sites for tents, trailers, and RVs up to 60 feet. The campground is divided into two loops, with each site equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Centralized facilities include a drinking water station and bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers. No hookups or dump station are available, making this a primitive-style camping experience despite the improved amenities. The park's main draw is its striking quartzite rock formations, including the namesake Hanging Rock and Moore's Knob, accessible via more than 20 miles of hiking trails. Waterfalls like Upper Cascades and Hidden Falls provide scenic destinations, while a 12-acre mountain lake offers swimming (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and fishing year-round. Vacation cabins are also available for those seeking more shelter. Reservations are handled through ReserveAmerica up to six months in advance. The campground is pet-friendly with a 6-foot leash requirement. ADA-accessible sites are available. A visitor center with a gift shop provides maps and information.
