Fairy Stone State Park Horse Campground is one of six Virginia State Parks offering dedicated equestrian camping facilities. Located in Patrick County in the Blue Ridge foothills, the campground provides 10 graveled pull-through sites with electric (20, 30, and 50 amp) and water hookups, accommodating RVs up to 50 feet. Each site includes a covered stall for horses, and the campground is intentionally set apart from other camping areas to provide privacy and quiet for the animals. Individual sites do not have picnic tables or fire rings, but common areas at each end of the campground feature three picnic tables and a fire ring. The campground has pit toilets on site, and campers can access showers at the group campground bathhouse between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. There is no dump station at the equestrian area; the main campground dump station is available but requires navigating hilly terrain with sharp curves. The park offers 10 miles of multi-use equestrian trails. Virginia law requires visitors to carry a copy of a negative Coggins test with each horse. Horses must remain in stalls when not being ridden, and all equipment must stay on graveled areas. The campground also allows non-horse camping if sites remain unreserved within 30 days of the stay date.
