Open

Open year-round. Stage II fire restrictions are in effect as of March 2026; campfires are prohibited except liquid fuel devices in cleared areas. The upper comfort station is closed; lower comfort station with showers remains open.

About

Percha Dam State Park sits along the Rio Grande in Sierra County, 16 miles south of Truth or Consequences. The campground features 30 developed pull-through sites under mature cottonwood trees, making it well-suited for RVs up to 95 feet. All sites include electric hookups (20/30/50 amp) and water, though sewer connections are not available. Each site accommodates up to 7 people. The lower comfort station provides flush restrooms and showers year-round, while the upper comfort station remains closed. Vault toilets are also available throughout the park. Activities include fishing and swimming in the Rio Grande, wildlife observation, and hiking the park's 3 miles of interpretive trails. Birding is particularly popular given the riparian habitat. The park operates 24 hours daily with no gate closures. First-come, first-served dry camping is available in addition to reservable hookup sites. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance through the New Mexico State Parks reservation system.

Directions

From Truth or Consequences, drive south on I-25 for approximately 16 miles to Exit 59 (Arrey/Derry). Head west on NM-187 for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Percha Dam Canal Road. The park entrance is at the end of the road.
