About

Kingston Campground is a small, free developed campground operated by the Gila National Forest, featuring just two campsites designed primarily for tent camping. Located along the north side of New Mexico Highway 152 near mile marker 40, the campground sits at an elevation of 6,160 feet near Middle Percha Creek on the eastern edge of the historic town of Kingston. The campground provides basic amenities including restrooms but does not have potable water, so visitors must bring their own drinking water. Each campsite has parking space suitable for cars, vans, and pickup trucks, with a limit of two vehicles per site. The 14-day stay limit applies, and pets are allowed but must be leashed. Positioned along the scenic Geronimo Trail National Scenic Byway, the campground offers convenient access to viewing the Black Range Mountains near the southern end of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. While no hiking trails begin directly from the campground, Scenic Trail #796, Iron Trail #793, and Ladrone Trail #127 can be accessed by a short drive or bike ride. Note that Highway 152 between San Lorenzo and Kingston features steep grades and tight turns, with vehicles over 40 feet prohibited on this section.
