About

Sproul State Forest spans over 305,450 acres across western Clinton and northern Centre counties in north central Pennsylvania, making it the largest state forest in the Commonwealth. The forest offers 81 designated roadside campsites for self-contained RV camping only, with no tent camping permitted at motorized sites. Sites are remote and accessed via dirt and gravel forest roads. These are truly primitive sites with no electric hookups, dump stations, potable water, or trash disposal. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Each site has a latrine, fire ring, and picnic table. Campfires are prohibited March 1 through May 25 without authorization from the district office, and during high fire danger conditions. Backpack camping is also permitted throughout most of the forest without a permit for single-night stays. Those wishing to camp at the same primitive location for multiple nights must obtain a free permit from the district office. Maximum stay at any site is 7 consecutive nights, after which a 48-hour gap is required before rebooking.
