About

Located near the US border with Mexico in Columbus, New Mexico, Pancho Villa State Park commemorates the last hostile action by foreign troops on continental US soil. The campground offers 53 sites with 30-amp electric hookups, 8 sites with 50-amp hookups, and 5 non-electric sites available by reservation. An additional 7 sites in the South Loop operate first-come, first-served, including 6 electrical and 1 primitive site. Primitive boondocking is also available. The campground includes modern amenities such as water access, an RV dump station, comfort stations with flush toilets, and hot showers. Sites accommodate RVs and tents, with level parking pads in a desert setting. The park features a museum and visitor center with exhibits on the 1916 Pancho Villa raid and General John J. Pershing's Punitive Expedition. Educational tours showcase artifacts and original Camp Furlong structures. Nearby attractions include historic Puerto Palomas de Villa, Mexico (2.5 miles south), local restaurants and shops, and BLM land offering hiking, biking, and OHV opportunities. The park hosts annual events including Camp Furlong Days in March and Holiday Lights of Columbus in December. Birding opportunities abound in this desert ecosystem with interpretive trails and a cactus garden on site.
