About

City of Rocks State Park campground sits within a unique landscape of volcanic rock formations, some towering over 40 feet tall, created by volcanic ash that hardened into tuff. The campground offers 43 developed sites scattered throughout the rock formations, with 10 sites providing electric and water hookups. Non-electric sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet, while electric sites handle rigs up to 50 feet as well. The park features modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, and a visitor center with interpretive displays and a desert botanical garden. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and grill. Seven miles of hiking and mountain biking trails wind through the rock formations, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including deer, antelope, javelinas, and over 35 bird species. City of Rocks is renowned for its dark night skies and features a 14-inch telescope for stargazing. The park operates year-round and accepts reservations up to six months in advance through the New Mexico State Parks reservation system.
