About

Paint River Forks Campground is a small, rustic campground nestled in the Ottawa National Forest at the confluence of the North and South Branch of the Paint River. With only 4 sites spaced along the riverbank, this lightly-used campground offers a secluded woodland camping experience surrounded by Jack Pine, Red Pine, and White Pine trees. The campground serves as an access point for the Paint River, which offers canoeing opportunities during high water periods (particularly May 1-15) and fishing for brook trout in all trout waters. The North Branch Paint River provides 12.5 miles of floatable river, with a take-out at the campground after 7 miles from FR 2152. Some portaging around dams may be necessary. This is a primitive, pack-in pack-out campground with limited services. No fees are charged for camping. The campground features a single vault toilet and a canoe launch, but no potable water is available. Campers should bring all necessary supplies and be prepared to pack out all trash. The campground is accessible via County Road 657, approximately 10 miles northwest of Iron River. The site is open until snow closes access, typically operating from late spring through late fall depending on weather conditions.

Directions

From Iron River, travel west on US 2, turn right (north) on CR 657, travel approximately 9 miles north, turn left to continue following CR 657, travel approximately 1.5 miles west to campground on right.
