Cherryvale Park is located on the crystal clear Big Hill Lake in southeast Kansas, part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas. The campground features 22 electric campsites and one group site with full hookups and a shelter, set in the rolling, wooded countryside known as the Little Ozarks. The thick oak-hickory forests surrounded by prairie and farmland create diverse habitats and a relaxing atmosphere with plenty of shade. The lake is known as a trophy fishing destination with largemouth bass, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, bluegill, walleye, and smallmouth bass. Campers can explore the Big Hill Lake Horse Trail, a 17-mile trail with varied terrain and scenic hardwood ridge views. A sand-covered swimming beach is located nearby at Mound Valley Park. Almost all land around the lake is open to public hunting for whitetail deer, turkey, and squirrel. The park operates year-round with reservations available through Recreation.gov. Winter camping is available with vault toilets in the north loop, though the shower house closes from November through March. The campground provides easy lake access and serves as a base for outdoor recreation in this scenic corner of southeast Kansas.

Directions

From Highway 169 in Cherryvale, Kansas, turn east onto Main Street. Continue through the town and turn right onto Olive Street. After half a block turn left onto County Route 5000. Continue 4.5 miles to the lake and follow signs to the park.
