About

Cherryvale Park is one of several Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Big Hill Lake in southeast Kansas, located in rolling wooded countryside referred to as the Little Ozarks. The park features 22 individual electric campsites divided between North and South loops, plus a group camping site with full hookups and a covered shelter. Tall shade trees provide relief from summer heat, and the lake is a short walk from all sites. Big Hill Lake is renowned as a trophy fishing destination, with largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. The 17-mile Big Hill Lake Horse Trail winds along scenic hardwood ridges and is open to hikers as well. Campers receive a free vehicle pass for the swimming beach at nearby Mound Valley Park. Public hunting for whitetail deer, turkey, and squirrel is permitted on most surrounding lands outside of park boundaries. Flush toilets and showers operate during the reservation season but close in the off-season; vault toilets in the north loop remain open year-round. Firewood should be purchased locally to prevent spread of invasive pests.
