Overlook
This is a day-use area with group picnic shelters, not an overnight campground. The shelters are reservable through Recreation.gov.
About
Overlook Park is a day-use recreation area situated on the shores of Big Hill Lake in the rolling, wooded countryside of southeast Kansas known as the Little Ozarks. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District, the park provides three forested picnic shelters with sweeping lake views, each accommodating groups of up to 100 people. The park features an accessible fishing dock on Big Hill Lake, which is known as a trophy fishing destination with largemouth bass, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, bluegill, walleye, and smallmouth bass. Facilities include drinking water and flush toilets. Groups exceeding 100 people must reserve two shelters to accommodate parking needs. Overlook is part of the larger Big Hill Lake recreation complex, which includes several campgrounds (Mound Valley, Cherryvale Park, Timber Hill) and equestrian trails for those seeking overnight stays. The nearby 17-mile Big Hill Lake Horse Trail offers varied terrain for riders of all skill levels.
