Mound Valley campground is located on the shores of Big Hill Lake in southeast Kansas, nestled in the rolling, wooded countryside known as the Little Ozarks. The facility features 85 campsites including three group sites, with most sites offering waterfront access and others just a short walk from the water. The campground provides electric hookups at most sites, restrooms, showers, and a boat ramp with trailer parking. Big Hill Lake is renowned as a trophy fishing destination with excellent populations of largemouth bass, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, bluegill, walleye, and smallmouth bass. The lake regularly hosts fishing tournaments. A sand-covered swim beach offers a perfect spot for families to cool off during summer months. The area features nearly 17 miles of equestrian trails on the Big Hill Lake Horse Trail, winding along scenic hardwood ridges with varied terrain suitable for all skill levels. The thick oak-hickory forests surrounding the lake, bordered by prairie and farmland, create diverse habitats for wildlife viewing and hunting opportunities. Whitetail deer, turkey, and squirrel are the principal game species, with public hunting allowed on most lands around the lake except near parks and dam structures. Managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the natural beauty of Kansas' Little Ozarks region.

Directions

From Cherryvale, take U.S. Highway 169 and turn east onto Main Street. Continue through town and turn right onto Olive Street. Go half a block and turn left onto County Route 5000. Proceed 4.5 miles to Big Hill Lake and follow signs to Mound Valley.
