North Higgins Lake State Park Campground

Open — Open year-round for camping with winter camping available. Full amenities including modern restrooms and showers operate seasonally.

Special Weather Statement issued February 10 at 5:19PM EST by NWS Gaylord MI

5:19 PM — 10:30 PM

Expecting patchy freezing drizzle, possibly mixed with snow, to continue across the area through the evening. A glaze of ice is possible where freezing drizzle persists longest, particularly across areas that are already at or below freezing...such as the eastern UP and the interior higher terrain of northern Lower Michigan. The best chance for more snow to mix in will be across the eastern UP. Temperatures falling below freezing after dark this evening will further allow surfaces to turn slick. Be sure to leave extra time for travel, as roads may be slick, and take care walking on untreated surfaces.

About

North Higgins Lake State Park Campground offers modern camping facilities on 449 acres along the pristine north shore of Higgins Lake in Crawford County, Michigan. The campground features 174 sites divided between east and west loops, with most sites offering electric hookups (20/30/50 amp) and water connections. Two mini cabins provide an alternative camping option with electricity, mini refrigerators, microwaves, and electric wall heaters. The park provides comprehensive amenities including modern restroom facilities with flush toilets and hot showers, a sanitation station with potable water and two lanes, and a designated pet beach for four-legged companions. The day-use area features a buoyed swim beach with accessible walkway and beach wheelchair, a two-lane boat launch with skid piers, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and the Higgins Lake Nursery and CCC Museum. Higgins Lake stretches 7 miles and reaches depths of 135 feet, making it popular for fishing, especially for perch and lake trout. The Iron Belle Trail, one of the nation's longest state-designated trails, passes through the park along Old U.S. 27. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Village of Roscommon and downtown Grayling are each within a 15-minute drive.
