About
Lake Hope Shelter is a reservable overnight camping shelter at Lake Hope State Park in the scenic hill country of southeast Ohio. The park encompasses 2,983 acres of rugged terrain covered in second-growth forest, surrounding a 120-acre lake that was created by damming Sandy Run in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The shelter provides a covered camping experience for visitors seeking something between tent camping and cabin accommodations. The shelter is located within Lake Hope's campground area, giving guests access to the campground's amenities including heated showerhouses, pit latrines, a waste disposal station, and laundry facilities. The campground features picnic tables and fire rings throughout. Lake Hope State Park offers excellent hiking on over 26 miles of trails, fishing and boating on the lake, and access to the adjacent 26,000-acre Zaleski State Forest for additional recreation including horseback riding on bridle trails. Reservations for the shelter are made through ReserveOhio, the Ohio State Parks reservation system. The park is open year-round, though some facilities operate seasonally. Pets are permitted in designated camping areas.
