About
Lake Alma State Park Campground occupies a scenic 292-acre park in Vinton County, one of Ohio's most rugged and picturesque regions. The campground is deeply shaded by a mixed oak and conifer forest, with a gentle creek meandering through the wooded valley. Originally constructed as a private amusement park in 1903, the land was later purchased by the city of Wellston for a municipal water supply before becoming a state park. The campground offers 83 sites: 6 full-hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections; 67 electric-only sites; and 10 primitive non-electric sites. A camper cabin is also available. All wooded sites include fire rings and picnic tables. Facilities include an ADA-accessible shower house with flush toilets, pit latrines, a dump station, and drinking water throughout the campground. The 60-acre lake provides excellent fishing for bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. A public swimming beach on the north side of the lake offers a safe area for cooling off, complete with restroom facilities and parking. Three hiking trails explore the surrounding forest, and a paved bike path is available. Pets are permitted on designated campsites and must be leashed. A separate dog swim area with a three-sided fence opens to the lake, though pets are not allowed in the main beach area.
