Halfway House Campground
Open year-round with no fees. Access may be limited during winter due to snow on Forest Road #311A.
About
Halfway House Campground sits at 5,000 feet elevation in tall timber with a small creek running through the area. The campground offers three sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water and campers must pack out all trash. This is a popular staging point for trips into the Gospel Hump Wilderness Area via Crooked Creek Trail #215. Stock facilities including a feed bunk and loading ramp are located nearby, making it well-suited for those traveling with horses or pack animals. The campground is free and operates year-round, though winter access may be limited by snow. It is reached by turning south from State Highway 14 onto Red River-Dixie Road #222, passing through Dixie, then taking Forest Road #311A approximately 1.5 miles to the campground.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn south onto Red River-Dixie Road #222. Follow Road #222 past Dixie approximately five miles to Forest Road #311A. Turn onto Road #311A and continue approximately 1.5 miles to the campground.
