About
Dixie Meadow Campground is a dispersed camping site located in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest along the Highway 14 corridor near Elk City, Idaho. Situated at 5,500 feet elevation in a meadow setting, this primitive campground provides a toilet but no other developed facilities. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. Campers should be prepared for a primitive experience as there is no potable water, no restrooms beyond the basic toilet, and no garbage service. Visitors must bring their own water and pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. Access is via Red River-Dixie Road #222, approximately 5 miles past Dixie Town. While the site is open year-round, winter access may be limited or impossible due to snow accumulation at this elevation. This is an ideal spot for those seeking solitude and a true backcountry camping experience in the Idaho wilderness.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn south on Red River-Dixie Road #222 and continue past the Red River Ranger Station (now closed) and past Dixie Town approximately 5 miles.
