Patchy dense fog is occurring early this morning over inland portions of South FL, especially along portions of Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail. Visibility may fall to under a half mile at times. Kirby Storter - Partial Reopen
As of 11/4/2024, the Kirby Storter Boardwalk will reopen to the public. Note that the boardwalk is only open part of the way, as rebuilding has not yet begun.
Off Road Vehicle Inspections
ORV renewals & new permits will be issued at the Nathanial P. Reed Visitor Center Friday-Monday, 9am-1:30pm. No permits will be issued Tuesday-Thursday. Permits will be issued first-come first-served. Visit our ORV page for more information

Park passes, including: America the Beautiful, Veteran, Lifetime, etc., are UNAVAILABLE for purchase/pickup within Big Cypress. Shark Valley Visitor Center (Everglades) is the closest location to Big Cypress for purchase.

About
Pink Jeep Campground is a primitive backcountry campground located in the Bear Island Unit of Big Cypress National Preserve. This remote campground can only be accessed with a valid ORV permit, by foot, or by bicycle. The gate combination is provided only upon obtaining an ORV permit from the permitting office. All visitors must also carry a free backcountry permit. The campground offers 9 designated campsites for tent and pickup camper camping only. No trailers or RVs are permitted in the backcountry. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available on-site. The preserve's backcountry provides opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing, and off-road vehicle exploration on designated trails. Big Cypress National Preserve protects over 720,000 acres of vital swampland that supports the health of the neighboring Everglades and marine estuaries along Florida's southwest coast. The preserve contains a mixture of tropical and temperate plant communities that provide habitat for diverse wildlife, including the endangered Florida panther.
Directions
From Naples or Miami, follow US HWY 41 to Turner River Road. Follow Turner River Road approximately 20 miles and turn right towards Bear Island Campground. Take the next left to Perochi Grade. An ORV permit and gate code are required to access this area. Follow Perocchi Grade for approximately 3 miles and turn left onto Bear Island Grade. The campground is on the left.
