About

Ohmer Creek Campground sits along Ohmer Creek on Mitkof Island in the Tongass National Forest, approximately 22 miles south of Petersburg via the Mitkof Highway. The campground operates under a minimal maintenance schedule due to Forest Service budget constraints, meaning no fees are collected but services are extremely limited. Campers must be fully self-sufficient. There is no potable water on site, no trash service, and restroom facilities may not be available. The Forest Service advises visitors to use neighboring recreation area facilities or bring a self-contained camping unit with its own waste system. All trash must be packed out. The campground provides access to Ohmer Creek for stream fishing and connects to the Ohmer Creek Trail. The first section of this trail is barrier-free with interpretive signage, passing through spruce and hemlock forest before reaching a floating bridge over a beaver pond. Usage at this campground is typically light.
