Pettigrew State Park

About

Located in Washington and Tyrrell counties in northeastern North Carolina, Pettigrew State Park showcases the natural beauty of Lake Phelps and the Scuppernong River. The park's family campground contains 13 secluded non-electric campsites designed for both tent and RV camping, with driveway lengths ranging from 20 to 76 feet. Each site accommodates up to 6 people and includes a picnic table, tent pad, and fire ring. The campground features a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, available seasonally. Lake Phelps offers excellent fishing, paddling, and swimming opportunities, while nine miles of trails wind past some of the oldest and most majestic cypress trees in the coastal region. The park is also home to Somerset Place, a historic antebellum plantation site. Winter visitors can observe tundra swans that migrate to the lake. The campground operates via advance reservations through the North Carolina State Parks system. A primitive group camping area accommodating up to 26 people is also available. The park office and all amenities are located near the campground on Lake Shore Road.

Directions

From US 64 East or West, take exit 558 to Creswell. Turn left onto Alligood Road and drive approximately one mile. Turn left onto Main Street and drive two miles (the road name changes to Spruill's Bridge Road). Turn right onto Thirty Foot Canal Road and drive for five miles. Turn left onto Lake Shore Road and the park office entrance is immediately on the right.
