About

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, approximately 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The park's land was restored during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps, converting previously over-farmed acreage into recreational lands. The campground consists of three loops: A Loop and B Loop accommodate both tents and RVs, while C Loop is tent-only. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire pit, lantern hook, and parking for at least one vehicle. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the park's extensive trail system, including 37 miles of hiking trails with the South Valley, Oak Ridge, and Farms to Forest Trails beginning at the campground entrance. Bicyclists can enjoy 21 miles of paved roads including the 12-mile Scenic Drive, plus a 3-mile family-friendly paved bike lane leading to the campground. Mountain biking is available on 10 miles of gravel fire roads. The park also features 30 orienteering courses, approximately 18 miles of streams, and two small lakes for fishing bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. Prince William Forest Park preserves approximately 15,000 acres of Piedmont forest and represents the largest example of a Piedmont forest ecosystem in the National Park Service. The park is home to 46 species of mammals, 22 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, more than 129 species of birds, and over 900 plant species. The campground is centrally located with easy access to Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. attractions, including the National Museum of the Marine Corps just one mile from the park entrance.

Directions

GPS devices may try to use closed gravel service roads. The only vehicle entrance is through the main park entrance on VA 619/Joplin Road. From I-95, take exit 150-B (from north) or exit 150 (from south) toward VA Route 619/Joplin Road. From the park entrance, turn left on Scenic Drive and follow approximately 6 miles to the signed turnoff for Oak Ridge Campground. Allow 15-20 minutes from the park entrance to reach the campground.
