Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 9:33AM EDT by NWS Louisville KY

8:33 AM — 7:00 PM

A combination of well-above average temperatures, low relative humidity, breezy winds, and worsening drought conditions will result in elevated fire weather conditions for this afternoon. Winds will be out of the southwest this afternoon, gusting up to 20 to 25 mph, and relative humidity values will drop to around 25 to 35 percent across the area. Conditions will improve after sunset as winds slowly decrease and relative humidity values increase.

About

North Fork Campground is situated on the shore of Rough River Lake, a 5,100-acre reservoir in the rolling, forested hills of south central Kentucky. The campground welcomes more than two million visitors annually who come to camp, fish, swim, boat, and relax along the lake shore. The facility offers 81 campsites total, with 50 sites featuring electric hookups and 31 non-electric sites. Several campsites provide waterfront views, while others are just a short walk from the water. The campground includes comprehensive amenities: flush toilets and hot showers, a dump station, playground, public beach, boat ramp with launch fees, basketball court, fishing pier, and two group shelters. Wi-fi is available from an outside source for an additional fee. The lake itself offers excellent fishing opportunities for bass, crappie, and catfish, with bass tournaments held throughout the operating season. Pontoon, johnboat, and jet ski rentals are available at nearby marinas. The natural setting features ancient sandstone, shale, and limestone cliffs surrounding the lake, with abundant surface and underground water that has carved through limestone to create numerous sinks and caverns. The area supports diverse wildlife including migratory songbirds and waterfowl. Nearby attractions include the historic Green Farm, Mammoth Cave National Park about an hour away, and local historic sites in Hardinsburg and Leitchfield.
