North Fork Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates May through November. The day use area remains open year-round. Water system is currently down; bring your own potable water when visiting.

About

North Fork Recreation Area provides camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing, hiking and fishing access to the North Fork of the White River, which has nine major springs flowing into it. The campground features 19 single sites spread across three loops in an oak/hickory forest with tulip poplar and sycamore. Sites are relatively private from each other and suitable for RVs up to 34 feet, though best for trailers under 30 feet. Each site includes a table, fire ring with grill, and tent pad, with drinking water, vault toilets, and garbage collection centrally located. The recreation area serves as a trailhead for the 35-mile Ridge Runner National Recreation Trail and the 0.6-mile Blue Spring Trail, which leads to Blue Spring, one of the largest springs in the area contributing approximately 7 million gallons of cold, clear water daily to the river. The day use area and campground offer views across the river to mixed hardwood and pine forest with rock bluffs, with Devils Backbone Wilderness Area beginning on the opposite shore. The site provides concrete boat ramp access for canoes and kayaks, with swimming available in a small cove near the day use area. Fishing for bass, sunfish, and trout is available from shore, by wading, or from watercraft.

From West Plains: Take State Route CC west 18 miles. The site is on the left. From Highway 181 just south of Dora, MO: Go 4.7 miles, turn left and take State Route CC 3 miles east. The site is on the right.
