About

Fort Snelling State Park's Urban Wilderness Youth Camp is a primitive group campground exclusively available to youth organizations (participants must be 18 years of age or younger). Situated on Picnic Island at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, the camp provides an accessible wilderness experience within Minnesota's Twin Cities metropolitan area. The camp offers two capacity tiers: groups of 25 or fewer, and groups of 26-75 people. Adult supervision is required with a maximum ratio of one adult per ten youth. Activities include hiking the trails of Picnic and Pike Islands, learning about the rich history of Fort Snelling, and enjoying campfires. The setting provides surprising natural immersion with bird songs and flowing water despite its urban location. Amenities are primitive, including vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills. Modern restroom and shower facilities are not provided. Reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system.
