About
Nelson Point Campground is a primitive lakeside facility located along the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake, easily accessible from Interstate 5 via the Salt Creek/Gilman Road exit. The campground can function as either individual family sites or as a group reservation for up to 60 people. Each site includes a picnic table, grill or stove, fire ring, tent pad, bear box, and paved parking spur. Shasta Lake sits at an elevation of 1,067 feet with 365 miles of shoreline surrounded by steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens. The lake is popular for power boating, water skiing, and fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, bass, and white sturgeon. Mount Shasta looms in the distance to the north. Campers should note that no potable water is available at this campground. Water can be filtered or treated from nearby sources. Poison oak is abundant in the area. The nearest public boat ramp is at Antlers, 6 miles away, where lakeside resorts also offer boat rentals and fuel.
Directions
From I-5, take the Salt Creek/Gilman Road exit (exit 698). Head west on Salt Creek Road, then turn onto Conflict Point Road. The campground is approximately 0.5 miles down Conflict Point Road, about 1 mile total from the interstate.
