About
Nelson Point Campground is situated along the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, offering convenient access from Interstate 5 while providing lakeside camping opportunities. The campground operates under a unique arrangement, functioning either as a single-site family campground on an as-needed basis through the Shasta Recreation Company, or as a group campground available for reservation. The campground includes well-equipped sites with picnic tables, fire rings or stoves, tent pads, bear boxes, and paved parking spurs. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply or treat water from nearby sources. The nearest public boat ramp is located 6 miles away at Antlers, and nearby lakeside resorts offer boat rentals and fuel. Shasta Lake sits at 1,067 feet elevation with 365 miles of shoreline surrounded by steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreen forests. The lake is popular for power and non-motorized boating, fishing, and water skiing. Anglers can target trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Mount Shasta, the second-tallest mountain in the Cascade Range, provides a dramatic backdrop to the north.
Directions
From Redding, take I-5 to exit 698 (Gilman Road/Salt Creek Road). Take Salt Creek Road west, then travel approximately 0.5 miles on Conflict Point Road to reach the campground.
