About
Lakeshore East Campground occupies a scenic location along the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake within the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. The facility offers 26 total sites including 18 single sites, 6 double sites, and 2 weatherproof yurts that provide year-round shelter. Each standard campsite features a paved parking spur, picnic table, and raised fire ring, with undergrowth of grass and raspberry bushes providing some privacy between sites under a partial canopy of oak and pine trees. The campground provides excellent access to Shasta Lake's 365 miles of shoreline, with several sites offering direct lake access for informal boat mooring. Antlers boat ramp is approximately 2 miles away, and Sugarloaf ramp is also nearby, making this an ideal base for power boating, waterskiing, and fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. The lake sits at 1,067 feet elevation, surrounded by steep mountains blanketed in manzanita and evergreens, with snow-capped Mount Shasta visible in the distance. Located just one mile west of I-5 in the community of Lakehead, the campground is easily accessible yet provides a retreat into California's largest national forest. The area encompasses diverse landscapes including five wilderness areas, hundreds of mountain lakes, and over 6,000 miles of streams and rivers. Bears frequent the area, and poison oak is abundant, so campers should take appropriate precautions.
Directions
From Redding, travel north on I-5 for approximately 20 minutes to the town of Lakehead. Take exit 702 for Antlers Road/Lakeshore Drive. Follow Lakeshore Drive for about 1.3 miles to the Lakeshore East Campground sign and turn left onto the campground road.
