About
Navajo State Park encompasses 5,088 acres on the northern shore of Navajo Reservoir, a 15,000-acre body of water often compared to a mini Lake Powell. Located about 35 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs, the park offers diverse camping options across five distinct campgrounds with 142 total sites. Rosa Campground provides the most amenities with 39 full-hookup RV sites featuring electric, water, and sewer connections, plus eight tent sites. The camper services building includes showers, flush toilets, and coin laundry. Carracas Campground has 41 electric-only RV sites, while Tiffany offers 23 basic sites, six tent sites, and three rustic cabins. For more primitive camping, Windsurf Beach has 15 smaller sites suited for tents or small RVs, and Arboles Point features four secluded double sites with stunning San Juan River views. The reservoir supports excellent warm-water fishing for largemouth bass, northern pike, and catfish, plus wakeless boating zones and multiple boat ramps. Nine miles of trails wind through pinyon-juniper woodlands, and the visitor center features exhibits on local history including the 1776 Dominguez-Escalante Expedition route.
Directions
From Pagosa Springs, travel west approximately 17 miles on US Highway 160, then turn south onto Colorado Highway 151 for about 18 miles to Arboles. Turn left onto County Road 982 and continue 2 miles to the park entrance.
