Navajo Lake State Park encompasses three distinct recreation areas along New Mexico's second-largest lake, offering over 15,000 surface acres of premier water recreation. The Pine River area serves as the most developed section with a visitor center featuring interpretive exhibits, full-service marina, boat ramps, and extensive campground facilities. Sims Mesa provides similar amenities across the lake, accessible via NM 527, while the San Juan River section offers a world-class fly-fishing destination with riverside camping and scenic trails. The park features 244 developed campsites and primitive beach camping areas distributed across seven campgrounds. Developed sites range from basic amenities to full-service hookups with electric and sewer connections. The lake provides outstanding conditions for motorized boating, water skiing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. Anglers enjoy productive fishing year-round, with the San Juan River tailwater section recognized internationally as a premier trout fishery. Campground facilities include restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers at Pine and Sims areas, dump stations, picnic tables, fire rings, and accessible sites. The park maintains drinking water systems, group shelters, playgrounds, and interpretive programs. Visitors should exercise caution when traveling with large RVs via County Road 4280, and note that NM Highway 539 over Navajo Dam may experience seasonal closures.

Directions

From Cedar City, Utah, travel east on Highway U-14 for 25 miles. Turn south onto Navajo Lake Road and continue approximately 2.5 miles to reach the campground.
