About
Buzzard Park occupies a ponderosa pine forest at roughly 7,300 feet elevation in the Jicarilla Ranger District of Carson National Forest. Located west of the Jicarilla Apache Reservation and within reasonable distance of Navajo Dam, this free primitive campground offers several dispersed campsites suitable for tent camping and smaller RVs willing to navigate the dirt access road. The campground provides a basic vault toilet but no developed water source, so campers must pack in all drinking water. There are no hookups, dump stations, or other developed amenities. Sites are available strictly first-come, first-served with no reservation system. The surrounding terrain features a mix of mesas and canyons characteristic of northwestern New Mexico, with Navajo Lake State Park and the San Juan River nearby for fishing and boating opportunities.
Directions
Located approximately 35 miles east of Blanco via US 64 and Forest Road 310. Access requires traveling dirt forest roads that may be rough after rain or snow. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
