Nancy Lake State Recreation Site

Closed — Closed for the season. Reopens in May and operates through September.

About

Nancy Lake State Recreation Site sits along Nancy Lake at milepost 66.5 of the Parks Highway, about 90 minutes north of Anchorage in the Mat-Su Valley. The 36-acre site features 30 wooded campsites that accommodate tents and RVs of any length, though no hookups are provided. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, with access to water and vault toilets throughout the campground. The campground provides a boat launch for accessing Nancy Lake's fishing and paddling opportunities. The lake is part of the broader Nancy Lake State Recreation Area, a glacially-carved landscape dotted with hundreds of lakes and ponds formed when ice retreated some 9,000 years ago. The area's spruce forests and clear waters provide habitat for diverse wildlife and tranquil settings for outdoor recreation. Campers must bring their own firewood as none is provided. A 15-day camping limit applies. The recreation site serves as a convenient base for exploring the larger Nancy Lake area's canoe trails, public use cabins, and extensive trail system used for hiking in summer and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in winter.
