AQAMT The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Gallatin, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Mineral, Missoula, Park, Powell, Ravalli, Silver Bow, Sweet Grass, Sanders, Yellowstone counties in effect until 9AM on 08/11/2026 An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near future. Elevated particulate levels from wildfire smoke As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Columbia Falls, Frenchtown, Libby and Missoula are Unhealthy. As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Billings, Dillon, Great Falls, Helena and Thompson Falls are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. About
Anna Creek Cabin is a rustic USFS rental cabin located on the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir in Flathead National Forest, offering sweeping views of the reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness. The single-story cabin accommodates up to 12 guests with one double bed, two twin beds, two double/twin bunk beds, and two twin roll-out trundle beds across 4 rooms. Indoor amenities include a propane cook stove and oven, two propane heaters, and propane lights. The cabin provides a private base for exploring the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Summer visitors can access nearby Graves Bay, Graves Creek, or Handkerchief Lake for fishing, swimming, and boating. Hiking trails along Pioneer Ridge and the east side of Jewel Basin are close by. Winter access requires a 24-mile snowmobile ride on an ungroomed route from the Hungry Horse Dam parking area, as Road 895 is not plowed. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no potable water or electricity. An accessible vault toilet is on site. The outdoor fire pit with barbecue grate and south-facing deck allow guests to enjoy the scenic setting. Visitors must bring all drinking water and supplies, store food properly in grizzly bear country, and clean the cabin before departure.
Directions
From Hungry Horse, MT, turn south on Road 895 and cross Hungry Horse Dam. Continue 29 miles on the gravel West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road. The cabin is on the west side of the road between mile markers 28 and 29, accessed via a short driveway with a gate. Winter access requires snowmobile from the Hungry Horse Dam Snowmobile Parking area.
