About

Mud Lake Campground sits in the Southern Elkhorn Mountain/Powder River Basin Area of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, directly across from Anthony Lake Ski Area. The smallest of three campgrounds in the Anthony Lakes Recreation Area, it provides an intimate alpine camping experience with sites nestled among dense pine and fir forest or positioned in open meadow. The campground offers 7 sites accommodating tents and small to mid-sized trailers up to 30 feet. Six sites feature 30-amp electrical hookups. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are provided, but no potable water is available; campers must obtain water from nearby Anthony Lake Campground or the day-use area. Recreation opportunities abound, including non-motorized boating on Mud Lake, trout fishing, and access to trails like the 22.6-mile Elkhorn Crest Trail and 1-mile Black Lake Trail. The campground is adjacent to over 8 miles of single-track mountain bike trails and sits along the 106-mile Elkhorn Scenic Byway.
