About

Boundary Guard Station is a historic structure located in the remote areas of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Grant County, Oregon. Built during the Depression years by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crews, the building showcases many unique architectural details and craftsmanship typical of CCC construction from that era. The guard station originally served as crew quarters for Forest Service field crews who worked in the woods during summer seasons, marking timber for harvest, fighting fires, and surveying roads. These scattered guard stations were essential infrastructure for managing the vast National Forest lands before modern transportation made daily commutes practical. The building is no longer used by Forest Service crews and has been identified as a potential future recreation rental cabin, though it has not yet been made available for public use. Campers interested in overnight accommodations in this area should consider the nearby Boundary Campground, which offers 8 tent-only sites along Bear Creek.
