About

Anthony Lake Campground is the largest of three campgrounds in the Anthony Lakes Recreation Area, situated at 7,100 feet elevation in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The campground occupies a scenic bluff among granite boulders and mixed conifers overlooking Anthony Lake, with views of Gunsight Peak and the surrounding Elkhorn Mountain Range. The area is known for wildflower meadows and resident mountain goats. The campground offers over 40 sites including walk-to tent sites, drive-in RV/trailer sites accommodating rigs up to 22 feet, two yurts, and a group site for up to 60 people. Each site features a paved parking apron, tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water (peak season) are available. Several sites are reservable through Recreation.gov while others remain first-come, first-served. Recreation opportunities include trout fishing, non-motorized boating and kayaking on Anthony Lake (electric motors only), and hiking. The 22.6-mile Elkhorn Crest Trail, 1-mile Black Lake Trail, and 1-mile Shoreline Trail are accessible from the area. The campground is located along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway, a 106-mile drive featuring ghost towns, lakes, and mountain scenery.
