About
Anthony Lake Guard Station is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps log cabin constructed in the 1930s, representing one of the few remaining Forest Service cabins built of logs. The two-story cabin sits on the north shore of Anthony Lake at 7,100 feet elevation, offering stunning views of the lake and glacial peaks of the Elkhorn Mountains, including 8,342-foot Gunsight Mountain. The area is known for conifer forests, wildflower meadows, and resident mountain goats. The cabin features modern comforts including a full bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower, electric lights, electric stove, refrigerator, propane heater, and a well-equipped kitchen with cookware, utensils, and place settings. Sleeping arrangements include one downstairs bedroom with a full-size bed and futon, plus two upstairs bedrooms with five twin beds. Guests must bring their own bedding, towels, and drinking water as potable water is not available at the site. A campfire ring and picnic tables are located outside, and a covered front porch provides additional outdoor space. The guard station is adjacent to Anthony Lake Campground and the Anthony Lakes Recreation Area. A boat ramp provides access to Anthony Lake for fishing (fly fishing for trout), canoeing, and kayaking. Nearby trails include the 22.6-mile Elkhorn Crest Trail and the 1-mile Shoreline Trail around the lake.
