About
Mt. Ashland Campground is a small, remote campground located at 6,000 feet elevation along the scenic Siskiyou Crest in the Klamath National Forest. Situated one mile past the Mt. Ashland Ski Area, the campground offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, including Mount Ashland and distant Mount Shasta. The Pacific Crest Trail runs parallel to Forest Service Road 20 and can be accessed directly from the campground, making it a popular stop for PCT hikers and backpackers. The Siskiyou Crest is renowned for its wildflower displays, butterfly populations, and excellent birdwatching opportunities during the warmer months. The high-elevation setting provides cooler temperatures in summer and a true mountain camping experience. The campground operates as a no-fee, first-come, first-served facility with vault toilets but no potable water or garbage service. Campers must bring all necessary water for drinking, cooking, and washing, and pack out all trash and waste. The 14-day camping limit applies. Access is via Forest Road 20, approximately 10.5 miles west from Interstate 5. The campground is typically accessible from June through October, with snow covering the area and closing access during the winter months.
Directions
From Interstate 5, take the Mt. Ashland exit and follow the Mt. Ashland Access Road west on Forest Road 20 approximately 10.5 miles to the campground on the left, one mile past the Mt. Ashland Ski Resort.
