About
Beaver Creek Valley State Park lies four miles northwest of Caledonia in Houston County, tucked into the driftless blufflands of southeastern Minnesota. The campground sits alongside Beaver Creek, a cold, spring-fed stream that supports naturally reproducing brown and brook trout. The park was developed in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and retains an intimate, wooded character. The main campground contains 42 drive-in sites, 16 of which have 30-amp electric hookups. Most sites are bordered by tall shade trees and include a picnic table and fire ring. A large sanitation building with flush toilets and showers operates seasonally, while vault toilets serve the non-electric loop. Six cart-in sites at the end of the campground offer a more secluded experience with carts provided; these sites also have tables and fire rings with nearby vault toilets. A single heated camper cabin with electricity (no running water) is available May through October. Trails meander along Beaver Creek and climb into the surrounding maple-basswood and oak forest. The park features an enclosed picnic shelter with a rock fireplace, playground, and sand volleyball court. Birding kits are available at the park office.
Directions
From I-90, take State Highway 76 south for 24 miles, then take Houston County Road 1 west for 4 miles. The park is four miles northwest of Caledonia, just off the Historic Bluff Country Scenic Byway.
