About

Great River Campground is located within Great River Bluffs State Park, positioned 500 feet above the Mississippi River Valley in beautiful bluff country. The main campground features 31 primitive back-in sites arranged in a loop, with most sites offering privacy through natural vegetation. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground has no electrical hookups but provides modern amenities including flush toilets and shower facilities within easy walking distance. In addition to the main campground, the park offers 4 cart-in tent sites for those seeking a more primitive experience and 5 bicycle-in sites at the base of the bluffs along Highway 61 (the Great River Road) for cyclists touring the Mississippi River corridor. The park contains over 6 miles of hiking trails including the popular King's Bluff Trail, which leads to breathtaking overlooks of the Mississippi River Valley. The area features oak-hickory woods, pine plantations, and rare goat prairies, making it excellent for birding along the major flyway for waterfowl, eagles, and hawks. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 60 feet in length on back-in sites, though the access road can be tight for larger rigs. The park is open year-round for day use, though the campground operates seasonally.

Directions

From Winona, Minnesota, head south on U.S. Highway 61. Just past mile marker 15, turn right onto County Road 3 and continue for 4 miles to the park entrance.
