About

Great River Campground is the main camping area at Great River Bluffs State Park, located on dramatic bluffs rising nearly 1,300 feet above the Mississippi River. The 31 drive-in campsites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 60 feet, though no hookups are available. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with cooking grate, with access to a central shower building with flush toilets. The park protects two Scientific and Natural Areas, King's Bluff and Queen's Bluff, featuring rare goat prairies on south-facing slopes. The King's Bluff Trail leads to a breathtaking overlook of the Mississippi River Valley. The park also offers 4 cart-in tent sites and 5 first-come-first-served bike-in sites for cyclists on the Great River Road Scenic Byway. Camping season typically runs from late April through late October. Reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system online or by phone. A state park vehicle permit is required for entry.
