About
Great River Bluffs State Park Bike-in Campground is a small, primitive camping area specifically designed for cyclists traveling the Great River Road along Highway 61. The five sites are situated at the base of the bluffs, separate from the park's main campground on the blufftop, making them easily accessible from the highway without a steep climb. Each site accommodates up to six people and includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground operates on a first-come-first-served basis with no advance reservations. While primitive, campers have access to vault toilets and potable water. The main campground's shower and flush toilet facilities are located approximately half a mile away on the blufftop. The park protects some of Minnesota's best remaining goat prairies and offers spectacular overlooks 200 to 500 feet above the Mississippi River Valley. Popular trails include the 1.25-mile Kings Bluff Trail and access to multiple scenic viewpoints. The park borders the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.
Directions
From Winona, take US Highway 61 southeast approximately 14 miles. The bike-in campground entrance is located at mile marker 12 on Highway 61, at the base of the bluffs. Look for signs indicating the bike-in campground entrance.
