About
Great River Bluffs State Park Cart-in Campsites provide a semi-remote camping experience in one of Minnesota's most scenic locations. Perched on bluffs high above the Mississippi River, these sites offer the solitude of backcountry camping without requiring a long hike. The park supplies carts at the parking area to help campers transport gear to their sites, making it accessible for families or those with more equipment than they could comfortably backpack. The cart-in area features 4 well-spaced sites, each with a fire ring and grill for cooking, a picnic table, and a level tent pad. Vault toilets and drinking water are available nearby. These primitive sites have no hookups, making them ideal for tent campers seeking a quieter alternative to the main campground. The surrounding park encompasses over 3,000 acres with more than 6 miles of hiking trails and stunning bluff-top views. The park contains two Scientific and Natural Areas, King's and Queen's Bluffs, which are home to rare native plants and provide exceptional birding opportunities. Campers can explore the diverse hardwood forests and prairies while enjoying panoramic views of the Mississippi River valley.
Directions
From I-90, take exit 267 (Valley Road/County Road 12). The park is located 14 miles east of Winona and 4 miles north of Dakota along the Mississippi River bluffs.
