This is a day-use only park with no overnight camping. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset year-round. Summit restrooms are currently closed. For camping, visitors should use nearby New River State Park.

About

Mount Jefferson State Natural Area is a day-use only park located on the US 221 Bypass between Jefferson and West Jefferson in Ashe County, approximately 25 miles northeast of Boone. The park does not have overnight camping facilities. There are no campsites, and visitors looking to camp in the area should plan to stay at nearby New River State Park instead. The park features approximately 5 miles of hiking trails leading to scenic overlooks with views extending as far as Tennessee. Luther Rock is a popular destination within the park. Over 700 plant species thrive here, including the Dutchman's pipevine which attracts the beautiful swallowtail butterfly. Day-use amenities include a reservable picnic shelter and restroom facilities at the summit (though summit restrooms may be temporarily closed). Park access is free, with hours from 8 a.m. to sunset daily throughout the year. The park is closed only on Christmas Day.
