About

Bitterroot Flat Campground is nestled in the scenic Rock Creek drainage of Lolo National Forest, offering campers direct access to one of Montana's premier blue-ribbon trout streams. The campground sits at 4,300 feet elevation among ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir trees, providing natural shade and a classic Western Montana forest atmosphere. The campground provides basic developed amenities including flush toilets, potable water from a hand pump, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a 6-foot leash. Horse and pack animals are not permitted at this site. A wildlife attractant storage order is in effect, requiring proper food storage due to bear activity in the area. Access requires traveling 23 miles south on Rock Creek Road from Interstate 90. The road is narrow and rough, making the campground unsuitable for trailers, motorhomes, or large tow vehicles. This limitation keeps the campground quieter and more suited to tent campers and those with smaller, maneuverable vehicles.

Directions

From Missoula, drive 20 miles east on Interstate 90 to Exit 126 (Rock Creek). Turn south onto Rock Creek Road (FR 102) and continue 23 miles to the campground. Road is narrow and rough; trailers, motorhomes, and large tow vehicles are not recommended.
