About
Moore Creek Campground sits along the scenic Mokelumne River in the Stanislaus National Forest, offering a remote and primitive camping experience in the Sierra Nevada. The campground is managed by the Calaveras Ranger District and provides basic amenities including picnic tables at each site. No potable water is available; river water can be obtained but must be boiled before use. The area provides excellent access to outdoor recreation, including hiking in the Mokelumne Wilderness, which requires permits for overnight use. Car-top boat launching is available at nearby Salt Springs Reservoir. The campground is surrounded by bear country, so proper food storage is essential. OHV use is prohibited within the campground, and pets must be kept on leash at all times. The campground operates seasonally from June through October, weather permitting. Campfires may be restricted during high fire danger periods. The primitive nature of this campground makes it best suited for experienced campers comfortable with minimal facilities.
