About

Monture Creek Campground offers a quiet, out-of-the-way camping experience in Lolo National Forest's Seeley Lake Ranger District. The campground sits along Monture Creek in a mix of open grassy meadows and mature ponderosa pine forest, providing both shade and views. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets available. Campers must bring their own water as no potable water is provided on site. The campground serves as a primary gateway to Montana's wilderness areas, with the Monture Creek Trailhead providing access to the Bob Marshall Wilderness (16 miles) and Scapegoat Wilderness (11 miles). Public stock facilities are available for horse camping, making it a popular staging area for pack trips. Fishing opportunities exist along Monture Creek. No campground host is present, and services are provided through intermittent patrols. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis, though winter access depends on snow conditions along the 7.5-mile gravel approach road. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a 6-foot leash.

Directions

From the junction of Montana Highways 83 and 200 (Clearwater Junction), travel east on Highway 200 for 12.5 miles. Turn north on Monture Road #89 and drive 7.5 miles on gravel road to the campground.
